This piece was inspired by collecting a slice of Ironbark trunk and seeing the details on the inside. The slice of timber offered some insight to the tough interior and exterior of these local trees.
How does your work engage with the theme ‘The World at Home’?
The world at home has meant spending more time within our own neighbourhood, beckoning an invitation to slow down, take notice of what is all around and within. When at home or at least close to home I have spent more time exploring my own local landscape. The drawing came about by collecting a slice of Ironbark (Eucalyptus tricarpa) and noticing just how thick and rough the exterior is and how richly detailed the interior is. This piece reminds me to look in through our own tough exteriors to see what might be going on within, particularly in the current times.
