Surf Coast Art Space Digital Liaison Daniela Rodriguez and Coordinator Ellise Roberts, are the organisers behind the project and online show Together in Art Surf Coast (#togetherinartsurfcoast). The drive behind the project was to give a window into the daily life of an artist during the time of isolation on the Surf Coast. It was also envisioned as a way for the artists involved to stay connected to each other and to the Surf Coast Art space. Ellise and Daniela also hoped that this opportunity would create new networks for artists when ‘face to face’ communication had abruptly ceased.
The works have been curated in a way to symbolize the collective feeling at the time of lock down. The shock of being cut off is represented by images in black and white. Then as time went on and restrictions eased, it was if colour returned and slowly, along with acceptance and adjustment, life found a new normal.
We were excited to receive 159 image tags. The exhibition has evolved into a collection of close to 100 works in a range of different mediums. Family portraits, still life and nature photography, video works, drawing, sculpture and painting were submitted. Sadly due to a tight time frame we weren’t able to include multiple submissions from the same artist, so please make sure you go to the #togetherinartsurfcoast to see all the works submitted.
Thank you to all those who have submitted work and we hope that the connections you have made to yourself, your artwork and the community continue to stay strong. Each work exhibited has an Instagram link to the artists page. Please follow and give your support to keep the connections going.
We are planning to have a show of these works in the future at the Art Space, so please stay connected for future projects and exhibitions.
